Donate Time
Oblong Children’s Christian Home welcomes you to either of our campuses, and we’re thankful for your interest in partnering with us in ministry. There are many possible projects. Depending upon importance, time, skill, and cost, we may assign one or more projects to your group. It is very important to the success of your mission trip that we work as a team. Hopefully, this will make your trip easier and will allow us to be prepared for your arrival. Above all, may Jesus be glorified in all of our efforts.
Take these important steps:
Pick a date (have a couple in mind)
Determine who will come (e.g., families, youth group members, skilled workers)
Determine your level of involvement (e.g., do you want to fund a special project AND work on it)
For work in Oblong, make a call to Chris Martin (618-553-3315; occhvolunteers@yahoo.com). For work in Fairfield, make a call to Mark Hunt (618-599-5831; mmbj1990@wabash.net)
Estate Planning
Leave a legacy–give a portion of your estate to Oblong Children’s Christian Home. Your generosity can provide homes for generations to come. You may designate your gift either to be used as needed by the Home or to be given to the Home’s endowment fund. Gifts given to the endowment fund keep on giving until the Lord returns as only the interest is used annually. There are many ways to give, including giving a percentage of your estate or a set amount, giving insurance policies, or giving the remainder of your IRA. Several of these vehicles may have great tax advantages that may increase the size of your gift. Annuities, which are both a gift and a lifetime income for you/your spouse, are available through the Children’s Home. Contact your financial adviser and Amy Kemp, Children’s Home co-administrator, for details.
Bequests
A charitable bequest is a distribution of your estate (the sum of your assets) to a charitable
organization. Some estates are large, but many times even individuals who aren’t particularly wealthy have resources to make bequests to charities at their death. In fact, it has been said that if every American bequeathed $100 in his or her Last Will and Testament, billions of dollars would be received by charitable causes every year. This short article is designed to provide brief definitions of various kinds of bequests. Please understand that careful review of your intentions should be discussed at length with trained professionals.
General Bequests. Bequests of this sort can be specific dollar amounts, particular assets,
or a fixed percentage of an estate. However, the bequest comes from the general value of the estate.
Specific Bequests. If an individual leaves a particular item or particular property designated for a specific purpose, the individual is said to have left a specific bequest.
Residuary Bequests. If, after all other assets have been distributed and other terms of your
will have been satisfied, yet you desire to leave a portion to a particular charity, you may leave the residue portion of your estate to a charity, which would be a residuary bequest.
Contingency Bequests. These bequests allow an individual to leave a portion of the estate
to a charity if there are no surviving beneficiaries. Without a will, however, there is no vehicle in place to secure your bequest.
